The Vinologist’s journey to discover single-origin Syrah begins in the Swartland. On slopes where even tractors struggle, the Vinologist finds pockets of vineyards where the hardy Syrah grape thrives. Hot and dry conditions allow Syrah vineyards to develop distinctive flavours, typical of the Swartland. The climate and growing conditions where these vineyards are located, lend themselves to produce Syrah with wild berries, violets and spice. Minimal intervention during fermentation and barrel ageing leads to a wine which genuinely reflects the terroir. This exuberant Swartland Syrah is a true example of a wine with origin.
Tasting Note
The intense nose is upfront, savoury and perfumey and entices with its abundance of violets, dark plums, rich brambles, cranberry, exotic spice and slight garrigue character. The violets and red fruit of the nose follows through onto a full, fleshy mid-palate with flavours of youngberry, blueberry and blackberry and notes of vanilla, cloves, nutmeg and candied orange peel. The wine is robust, yet smooth and richly textured. It shows exceptional balance with vibrant, yet integrated acidity. The wine ends with hints of sweet spice lingering on its focused finish.
